Looking for inforamtion for Martha Sue Collins-Hanshaw. I was looking for any info on my great-grandmother Martha Sue Collins- Hanshaw form Elliot County Kentucky. She was the daughter of Washington Collins and Emmaline Parish-Collins. please email me with any information.

Dear Pat,

I am searching for my grandmother's mother's people. My Grandmother's name is Edna/Edney Hanshaw Lambert and her mother was Martha Sue Collins. They lived in Elliott County Kentucky. Martha was married to Marion Hanshaw. I believe Martha was born around 1877 because on the 1920 Census she was 43. Do you know if there might be a connection?

Mrs. Nancy M. Murphy, a pioneer of the county, died Thursday, Feb. 2 at the
age of 79 years, 4 months and 26 days,
after a lingering illness. She is survived by four sons, Hartwell Murphy and
James Murphy, of Indianspolis, Homer
Murphy, Wolcott, and Zebbie Murphy, Anderson, and three daughters, Mrs. Anna
Mount, Noblesville, Mrs. Jessie
Mount and Mrs. Jesse Comer, Scottsburg.

The funeral was held Sunday morning at the Scottsburg M. E. Church, with
burial at the Scottsburg cemetery.

Mrs. Murphy was held in high esteem by all who knew her as a devoted christian
and loving mother.

Nancy M. Murphy, daughter of Zebulan and Debbie Collins, was born in Scott
County, Indiana, Sept. 6, 1853 and died
Feb. 2, 1933 at the age of 79 years, 4 months, 26 days.

Her parents were pioneers in Scott County and were descendants of some of
those who lost their lives in the historical
Pigeon Roost Massacre. There were nine children born to the Collins Family and
at the death of Mrs. Murphy there is but
one left, Mrs. Jennie Shields of Scott County, Indiana.

On March 27th 1873 Mrs. Murphy was married to Samuel H. Murphy and immediately
they builded a house and
established a home on their farm located in Scott County, which they occupied
until circumstances compelled their
departure therefrom. Nine children were born to this couple; they are Mrs.
Anna Mount, of Noblesville, Hartwell and
James of Indianapolis, Mrs. Jessie Mount and Mrs. Maggie Comer, of Scottsburg,
Homer of Wolcott, and Zebbie of
Anderson. Mrs. Mattie Davis and Amos preceded her in death. In addition to
these she became the adopted mother of
Grant Davis who was left an orphan at the age of 10.

Mr. Murphy died 24 years ago, and 13 years ago Mrs. Murphy consented to leave
the farm and she has made her home
with her daughter Maggie ever since, visiting among her other children as she
desired. She was visiting her daughter Jessie
when taken ill and remained there until death took her away.

Her father was a pioneer preacher in the M. E. Church and true to her teaching
Mrs. Murphy became a member of the
church at the early age of thirteen and she never wavered in her faith in God
or her love for His Son. Christ was the chief
corner stone in which her home was established. Love and Prayer seemed to beam
from her countenance and flow with
every breath she breathed. Even in the stillness of death Peace and
Contentment seems to rest upon her face and smile to
play upon her lips; and one can almost hear her say "I know whom I have
believed and am persuaded that He is able to
keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day." As the last hour
was approaching and Death like a pall was
falling over her loves ones, she whispered "I have fought a good fight, I have
finished my course, henceforth there is laid
up for me a crown of righteousness" and she attempted to sing "Oh Come Angel Band."

Her many relatives and friends have everything to fare-well upon and may well
think of her in the same relationship tho
she has passed through The Valley of the Shadow of Death.
