Corydon, Indiana, July 6-News has been received here of a terrible fight that occurred at Marengo, Crawford County, between a band of whitecaps/regulators, and two brothers named Naushee. The whitecaps called upon John Naushee for the purpose of whipping him. John and his brother, Sherman, were awaiting their arrival and, with wagon spokes, attacked the regulators. In the fight that ensued, Sherman Naushee was probably fatally shot, and John was beaten with clubs until he was left for dead. The Naushees were powerful men, and it is said that several whitecaps were wounded or killed. The charge against John Naushee was that he had caused the separation of Justice Town and wife by his relations with the woman.
