Kentuckiana Genealogy: County: Gallatin Co., Kentucky: Surnames: Shafer, Shaffer, Shaver

I am looking for the ancestors of my gmother. She was Pearl Shafer. Her father was William Shafer. There appears to be many variations of the spelling. I think his father's name was Thomas Shafer and mother Elizabeth Henry but I can't find the proof I need. Any help would be appreciated. I have a reference from an article in The Mt. Vernon Signal in Rockcastle Co. around 1900 that suggests he was from Gallatin Co. and somehow involved with the tobacco industry.
