I'm hoping for advice!
I am a descendant of Frederick KOST and Kunigunda SCHULTHEIS, through their adopted son, William who was baptized on 26 Sept 1858 at the age of 2 yrs and 6 mo[abt Mar 1856]. The family Bible has 02 Nov 1857.
The baptismal of Wm's daughter, Clara, indicates her father as being William MCGANG instead of KOST. The 1900 Census lists William's parents as born in Ireland. McGang is an Irish name while Frederick and Kunigunda were definitely German.
Going through the St. Michael, St. Patrick Baptismal Records, I noticed there were several adoptions throughout each year. Does anyone know if there was an Adoption Organization that may have been going through the Catholic Church?
Also, someone has suggested looking at the apprentice books in Perry County. What would be the likelihood of an apprentice being 2 ½ years old? Frederick was a shoemaker and I guess a small boy would be of help.
What court records would guardianships or orphans have gone through?
