Steinberg family of New Albany

My gr-gr grandfather and mother apparently lived in New Albany. Their names were Samuel and Freda Steinberg and I believe they lived there somewhere between 1870 and 1900. However, I fail to find any trace of them in census records or other documents available to me on line. Samuel was a "linen merchant" and his son Julius lived in Louisville. However, we can find nothing about Samuel's generation.

Any suggestions about how to find a trace of this family would be appreciated.
