Merrit (Merit, Merry) Humphrey's father was David Humphrey, Sr., b. Abt 1739 in Louisa/Abermarle County, VA, d. Abt 1776. His mother may have been Jane Young, but that is just a guess.

I believe Merritt Humphrey's first wife was probably Nancy Cash. They were married 8 Aug 1780, probably in Virginia. Holman Sneed was born in Abermarle or Louisa County, Virginia on 24 May 1781, so Nancy must be his mother. Merrit married again later to Mary Crim by William Kellar in Jefferson County on 1 Oct 1802. They had at least Sophronia (my line) and Catherine. I also have another marriage for Merritt to a Catherine Hart, but I have no date for that one, or where she fits in with regard to the other wives. My guess she was at least a second wife. All indications are that Mary Crim was actually Merritt's last wife since she was living with Holman in Illinois after Merrit had died.

Looking for information for Holman S Humphrey and family. Father may have been Merry(merrit) Humphrey who died in Oldham Co. in 1840. Holdman and Mary Crim Humphrey was in Wash. and Lawrence Co. Ind. 1830-1845. Moved to Edgar Co. Ill. Children Elizabeth, James,John,Ben,Francis Marion,Robert Bruce,Melinda,and more.
