Died July 29, 1945,
Decatur S. Gaither, son of James and Sally Kermickle Gaither, was born near Alton, on November 23, 1861 and died July 29, 1945 at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 6 days.
He was married to Emma L. Harvey on August 24, 1884. To this union two children were born, Cleo V. and Hazel B. The wife and mother died on January 5, 1910. Mr Gaither was made a Master Mason in Alton Lodge No. 202 F & A.M. in August, 1891. In November 1941 he was presented with a medal commemorating 50 years service as a Master Mason by the Grand Lodge of Indiana.
On January 1, 1916 he married Charlotte Armstrong, of New Albany, who preceded him in death on May 9, 1941. Surviving are one son, Cleo V., of Alton; one daughter, Mrs Hazel Brown, of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, S/Sgt Fielden D. Gaither, in Germany, Lieut. (jg) Mary E. Gaither, Washington, D.C.; Anne G. and Ruth J. Gaither, of Louisville; Lieut (jg) James L. Brown, U.S. Navy Training Center, Sampson, N.Y.; one sister, Mollie Parr, of Alton and a host of other relatives and friends.
