I am trying to find an elusive g-grandfather by the last name of RACY (we think). In searching the Texas Census records for 1860 in the counties adjacent to Waco Tx and using all the alternative spellings I could dream up, I found the name RASEA. I really feel this is a census takers spelling error, but maybe not...This record states that in the year 1860 J. RASEA age 33 from Kentucky, his wife M.E. age 23 from Miss. and his daughter M.J. age 2 born in Tx were living at/around Steels Creek, Tx. (It would have ben nice if the census taker had written names rather than initials) It said his profession was Master Mason. I am really trying all kinds of "end runs" to locate my grandfather's family. He and his 3 brothers were orphaned at a very young age, according to family tradition, and knew very little about their parents. My grandfather, John, was born in 1867 near Waco,Tx according to the same stories. I have located two of his brothers in Ok, William 1861-1945 and Nash. One person who has responded to my queries and cries for help suggested that these ancestors might have been Melungeon, which certainly could be possible since I am having such difficulty finding them. At any rate I am asking anyone in Kentucky that has knowledge of a RACY (by any spelling) who could possibly fit this J. RASEA to please let me hear from you. I realize that this is a real long shot, but at this point anything will help! Also if anyone has any ideas for me to try, I would really appreciate any help I can get!! Thanks in advance, Sherma Raymond dsray1938@aol.com

One of the Duncan daughters, Katherine is suppose to have married an unknown RAINS prior to 1800; their first child (Emory RAINS) was born in Warren County TN in 1800. Mrs. Rains is suppose to have remarried prior to 1830 and quite possibly moved to either Texas or Missouri thereafter. My gg-grandfather, James RAY, was born in Kentucky in 1799, according to census records. He married Jane NEWKIRK in Crawford County, IN, in 1838. Any information about his parents and/or siblings will be greatly appreciated. I don't have the name of the Kentucky county where he was born. The information related by a great-uncle is as follows: Two RAY boys, more than two hundred years ago, came from Scotland to Charleston, South Carolina, on into North Carolina. One of the boys married and had some sons, one of whom was James Jacob RAY’s great grandfather, called Harv, or Harvey. Harv married, and his family came by water on a raft to Kentucky, sailing part of the way on the Ohio River. Harv built a big raft and put all his family and stock on it and sailed down the Ohio River around 1775. James Jacob’s grandfather, Jim RAY, was born in 1799 in Kentucky on the Cumberland River. Jim RAY enlisted in the Texas and Mexico War of 1836. He bought a fine horse and rode to Sam HOUSTON’s headquarters in Texas. When he got there, the Battle of San Jacinto had already been fought, and the war was over. He went back to Kentucky and into Crawford County, Indiana, where he married Jane NEWKIRK in 1839 or 1840 when he was about forty years old. Any help on Jacob RICE and Mary BURKHART will be greatly appreciated. I have collected considerable data on the descendants of Cornelius N. and Sarah Catherine RAY that I am willing to share.

Trying to trace the above names is like trying to empty Lake Superior with a teaspoon. There's just TOO many of them. Daniel W. JONES married Mary Ann JENKINS 27 July 1866 in Jefferson Co., KY. He stated he was born in KY, his father in VA and his mother in KY. That's all I know about him. Mary Ann was born in KY, her father, William JENKINS, in Indiana, and her mother, Catherine BASSETT, in Illinois. Can anyone help me with this family? Also, their son, Jesse H. JONES, b. 1866, married Mary Roenas FOX. She was from Bullitt Co., KY. Any help there?
