Mary "Polly" CANNON married John CHAMPION in Mercer County, KY 13 November 1794. Mary's parents, Robert CANNON and Elizabeth ? were witnesses. John and Mary's daughter, Ruth CHAMPION married William McMURTRY 23 November 1826. Lieutenant Governor William McMurtry, son of James and Elizabeth Lucas Jewell, was born in Mercer County, Kentucky 20 February 1801. In a few years he went with his father's family to Hardin County, Kentucky. In 1815, the family moved to Harrison County, Indiana, Blue River, near Corydon. In 1818, they moved to Crawford County, Indiana near Fredonia and Leavenworth where the mother died the same year. William married Ruth Champion 15 November 1826 in Crawford County, Indiana. She was born 3 May 1795 in Mercer County, Kentucky. He died 11 April 1875 in Knox County, Illinois. She died 12 February 1864 in Knox County, Illinois. They had five (5) children. In notes it says William McMurtry died 11 April 1875 on the farm where he settled in "1829". They must have been very early settlers in Knox County, Illinois! Here is an outline of this family and hope to hear from any descendants. Thank you. Jan
